Roofing Marketing: The System That Books Roofing Jobs

Roofing marketing is four things working together: a fast site that converts, a Google profile that ranks, a way to catch missed calls, and reviews arriving without you asking. Run in that order it compounds. Run out of order it wastes money.

What roofing marketing actually has to do

Roofing marketing has one job: make the phone ring with homeowners who already trust you, and make sure you answer. Everything else is decoration. If a tactic does not move one of those two things, it does not belong in your plan.

That is why most roofers waste money. They buy a logo, a brochure site and a social media posting schedule, then wonder why nothing rings. None of those three touches either job.

The four engines, and the order to build them

Build them in this order. The order is the part people get wrong.

  1. A site that loads under 2 seconds and asks for the job. The average is 6 to 8 seconds. Everything downstream feeds this, so a slow site wastes every dollar you spend driving traffic to it.
  2. Google Business Profile, filled out completely. 88% of local mobile searches end in the top three, and this is how you get there. Contractors typically see around 3.5 times more calls after 90 days of proper profile work.
  3. Missed call text back. 67% of callers will not leave a voicemail. An automatic text within 30 seconds recovers up to 80% of those jobs.
  4. An automated review engine. Roughly 47 reviews a year without you chasing anybody, which feeds straight back into step 2.

Notice ads are not on that list. Ads are a multiplier on a working system, not a replacement for one.

Why local ranking is not one number

Roofers ask where they rank and expect a single answer. There is no single answer. Ranking is a geo grid, not a number. You can be first on one side of town and twelfth on the other, because Google weighs Proximity, Relevance and Prominence, and Proximity changes with every street corner.

This matters for your money. If you already rank well near your shop, the win is not more work there. It is the neighbourhoods on the edge of your service area where you show up on page two.

What roofing marketing should cost you

There are two ways to buy roofing marketing and they price very differently. An agency retainer is commonly $1,500 to $3,000 a month plus ad spend, usually on a contract, usually with a strategist who has never been on a roof. A done for you system is one flat monthly fee with no contract.

Judge either one the same way: cost per booked job, not cost per lead and definitely not cost per click. A typical trade market returns 12 to 20 times what goes into a working system. If your provider cannot show you booked jobs, you are buying activity.

The leak that costs more than your ad budget

Before you spend another dollar getting found, count the calls you already miss. You are on a roof. The phone rings. Nobody picks up, and two thirds of those people never leave a message, they just call the next roofer.

Fixing that costs nothing per lead because these people already chose you. It is the highest return move in roofing marketing and almost nobody does it first.

Reviews are ranking, not just reputation

Reviews do two jobs at once. They are Prominence, which is one of the three things Google ranks you on, and they are the reason a homeowner picks you out of the three in the map pack. A roofer with 19 reviews loses to one with 140 even when both are equally good.

The mistake is asking manually. You remember for two weeks and then a busy month kills it. Automate the request after every completed job and it stops being something you have to think about.

When roofing marketing is not your problem

Straight answer, because this saves people money: if you cannot get to the jobs you already have, marketing is the wrong purchase. More leads into a business that cannot quote them fast enough just creates angry homeowners writing reviews about how you never called back.

Same if your close rate is under one in ten. That is a sales and quoting problem, and marketing will make it more expensive, not better. Fix the quote, then turn on the tap.

Done for you, or do it yourself

All four engines can be built yourself. It is not secret knowledge, it is unglamorous work and a few hundred hours you probably do not have during roofing season.

JR Grow installs all four for one flat monthly price, no contract, cancel anytime, live in 7 to 10 days. Over 100 contractors run it at a 4.9 star average. Not an agency, not software you have to figure out. Roman built it with his partner Jarda for people who work with their hands.

Key terms

Geo grid: A map of where you rank across a whole service area rather than one average position, because local ranking changes street by street.

Cost per booked job: Total marketing spend divided by jobs actually signed, the only number that tells you whether marketing is working.

Missed call text back: An automatic text sent within 30 seconds of a call you could not answer, which recovers up to 80% of those jobs.

Map pack: The three local businesses Google shows above the regular results, where most roofing enquiries begin.

Frequently asked questions

How much should a roofing company spend on marketing?

Judge it by cost per booked job rather than a percentage of revenue. Work out your average job value and your close rate, then make sure the total monthly cost sits comfortably under the profit from the jobs it books. A working system in a typical trade market returns 12 to 20 times what goes into it.

Does roofing marketing work without Google Ads?

Yes, and for most roofers it should start without them. The map pack and organic results are where 88% of local mobile searches end up, and both keep working when you stop paying. Ads are useful for filling a slow week, not for building a pipeline.

How long before roofing marketing brings in jobs?

Missed call text back pays off the first week because it recovers calls you are already getting. Google Business Profile work usually shows up around 90 days. Ranking a website in the regular results normally takes 4 to 8 months depending on how competitive your area is.

Is a marketing agency or a done for you system better for roofers?

An agency suits you if you have someone in house to manage them and a budget for retainer plus ad spend. A done for you system suits you if you want the four engines built and running without managing anybody. The real test is which one will show you booked jobs instead of reports.

What is the first thing a roofer should fix?

Missed calls, then site speed, then the Google Business Profile. That order is deliberate: missed calls cost you jobs you already earned, and a slow site wastes every visitor the other work sends you.
